a lot has been written recently about local chefs and their desire to open chicken restaurants.  as such, we thought we'd visit one of chicago's original fried chicken joints, harold's chicken shack.  although we went to #36, not the original #11, quite frankly the fried chicken is the same just no bulletproof glass!  make sure you go on a day that isn't 100 degrees (no A/C).  also make sure you have time to wait as each order takes approximately 15 minutes.  you can't beat no frills, cooked-to-order fried chicken with white bread,  french fries, bbq & hot sauce on the side.  mostly a take-out restaurant but there are a couple of counters with stools if you can't wait to get it home (careful, it's hot)!

for dessert, just a couple of blocks away is an outpost of glazed and infused!  fried chicken and doughnuts go together like peanut butter & jelly, lucy & desi, coronary & bypass!  just a tease from glazed and infused as this place warrants a more extensive visit.
