hackney's traces its true beginnings to the days of prohibition despite what the sign says - since 1939 - famously serving beer, burgers and corned beef sandwiches at the time of repeal in 1933!  in 1957 they created their famous onion loaf and have been serving it ever since.  the hackneyburger and reuben are served on their traditional dark rye and they serve many more beer options today than they could during prohibition!  still a family business in its third generation of operation and there's a reason for that.  the food's mighty damn good!

  1. Glad to see Hackney's in the city. Definitely going to give it a try. Started going there as a teen when they opened.... showing my age! Hope it's as good as I remember.
    Guess who?

  2. I think the hosts are very pessimistic about tips, given the size of their tip cup. The burgers look de-lish--all beef?
